MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

Attention all MultiVersus players! The game you've come to enjoy will be shutting down after its upcoming 5th Season. Dive in to learn more about what MultiVersus Season 5 has in store and what you can expect once the game goes offline.

Warner Bros. Games Shutting Down MultiVersus

Multiversus Season 5 Will Be Its Last Season

On January 31, 2025, MultiVersus' official Twitter (now known as X) account announced that the game will cease operations on May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. In a detailed blog post on the MultiVersus official website, Player First Games and Warner Bros. confirmed that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."

MultiVersus Season 5 kicks off on February 4, 2025, and will run until May 30, 2025. This season will introduce two new playable characters: DC's Aquaman and Looney Tunes' Lola Bunny. According to the blog post, "All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay." Once Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

As of now, there have been no official statements from MultiVersus regarding the reasons behind the shutdown.

Moving Forward With MultiVersus’ Offline Mode

Post-Season 5, MultiVersus will transition to an offline mode, allowing players to continue enjoying the game "via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends." To access this feature, players need to download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, from February 4 at 9 AM PST to May 30 at 9 AM PDT.

Upon logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account. This will enable you to play MultiVersus offline with all your earned and purchased content.

As of January 31, 2025, real money transactions for Gleamium, MultiVersus' premium currency, have been discontinued. However, players can still use any remaining Gleamium to access in-game content until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus First Opened Public Beta In 2022

MultiVersus first opened its doors to the public with a beta in July 2022, offering a free-to-play fighting game experience reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., but with a unique twist of a team-based 2v2 format. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open public beta rolled out several updates and two seasons of content. The game was relaunched in May 2024 with new features including additional characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, new currencies, and more.

Despite these updates, the game struggled to retain player satisfaction due to technical issues, frequent disconnections, and controversial microtransactions. By July 2024, MultiVersus experienced a significant 70% drop in player count on PS4 and PS5.

MultiVersus is set to shut down officially on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, featuring 35 playable characters from various beloved franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed their gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

You can still download MultiVersus on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025. Make sure to enjoy the final season and prepare for the offline experience.
