Nintendo has officially announced that the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation for the Switch 2 will run for approximately 60 minutes—significantly longer than average, indicating a wealth of information to be shared about its next-generation console. The event is scheduled for April 2, 2025 at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST and promises to deliver a more in-depth look at the Switch 2, following its brief initial reveal earlier this year.
That first teaser gave fans a glimpse of the console’s design, a potential preview of *Mario Kart 9*, and sparked curiosity with a possible “mouse mode” functionality for the new Joy-Con controllers. Despite those insights, many questions remain unanswered—including the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con ‘C’ button, the system’s hardware capabilities, and the purpose of its newly introduced ports.
What to Expect From the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct
The extended Direct aims to address some of these uncertainties by revealing the full launch lineup, release date (expected between June and September 2025), and potentially even the official price point. Analysts are currently predicting a $400 MSRP, which would position the Switch 2 competitively within the current market.
Additionally, there's growing anticipation around third-party support. A wide range of titles is rumored to be in development for the platform, including *Civilization 7*, with its developer Firaxis expressing interest in the rumored Joy-Con mouse functionality. French publisher Nacon has confirmed that it already has games ready for the Switch 2, while titles like *Hollow Knight: Silksong* and EA franchises such as *Madden*, *FC*, and *The Sims* have also been mentioned as potential fits for the new console.
More Than Just Hardware
Beyond the console itself, recent updates have raised further intrigue. Last week’s Nintendo Direct introduced the new Virtual Game Cards feature, allowing game sharing across devices, but a small footnote on Nintendo’s website led fans to speculate how this ties into the Switch 2 ecosystem.
Following the Direct, Nintendo will continue the showcase momentum with a special Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 broadcast on April 3 and 4 at 7am PT, offering live gameplay demonstrations of upcoming titles.
