PGA Tour 2K25: Final Game Preview

by Emery Mar 13,2025

If you polled fans about which pro sports series 2K should tackle next, a NFL 2K revival would likely top the list. Even ahead of a pro golf game, perhaps. Yet, 2K is back for a third swing with PGA Tour 2K25, and after a few hours, it's surprisingly enjoyable.

HB Studios, the developer, has been refining its golf game for a decade, starting with The Golf Club before partnering with 2K. This experience shows in 2K25. While not the best-looking sports game, and lacking a massive course roster (though it includes the PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open Championship), the gameplay is solid. Minor issues like occasional choppy framerates on PC (when surveying holes) were easily overlooked.

PlayThe upgraded EvoSwing mechanic is a highlight. Using a controller, the right stick option—pull down to wind up, press forward to strike—felt natural. Difficulty settings adjust forgiveness, allowing for casual or challenging play. The LB button lets you shape shots, adding precision. Improved ball physics and lateral movement on the tee box enhance strategy. Playing as Tiger Woods, the cover athlete, certainly helped!

MyCareer gets a boost with narrative mechanics. I even landed a movie role with Christopher McDonald (though not as Shooter McGavin, due to licensing). Choices impact stat boosts, and earned VC unlocks gear that affects performance. Upgradable skills and weekly Quests (like getting 10 birdies in a row) add replayability.

PlayThe MyPlayer creator, while not extensively tested, allows for reasonable character customization, now enhanced with skill trees. Multiplayer, including ranked matchmaking and cross-platform Societies (clubs), promises fun casual play, reminiscent of *Links 2004*. Asynchronous options cater to players in different time zones.

PGA Tour 2K25 is hard to definitively preview; it excels without truly standing out in any one area. This makes it less exciting, but it’s still a solid choice for golf fans and those seeking a relaxing game. A playable demo is available now, so you can judge for yourself.
