Phil Spencer Revives Ninja Gaiden Franchise

Team Ninja producer Fumihiko Yasuda has revealed that the studio has been eager to develop a new installment in the Ninja Gaiden series for a long time. The challenge, however, was finding the right concept. The turning point came when Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma and PlatinumGames head Atsushi Inaba discussed the project, eventually bringing Phil Spencer into the conversation. Spencer proposed that the three companies collaborate to bring this vision to life.

Phil Spencer disclosed that initial discussions with Team Ninja about a sequel began in 2017. After several years of dialogue and exploration, they identified PlatinumGames as the perfect partner due to their expertise in crafting fast-paced action games, such as Bayonetta and NieR: Automata.

Last week marked the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, alongside the surprise release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, an enhanced version of the Xbox 360 classic, now available on Xbox, PS5, and PC.

The first trailer for Ninja Gaiden 4 indicates that Ryu Hayabusa, the iconic ninja protagonist, will lead the charge in this thrilling action game. The gameplay trailer showcased new mechanics unique to this installment, including the innovative use of wires and rails for swift movement through game environments.

While DOOM: The Dark Ages captured much of the spotlight at Developer_Direct, Ninja Gaiden 4, the eagerly anticipated sequel from Koei Tecmo, also made a significant impact. The game is slated for release in the fall of 2025.
