Pokémon Generation 10: Dual Switch Release Possible?
Recent leaks suggest a surprising development for the upcoming Pokémon Generation 10 games: potential releases on both the original Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Switch 2. While it was widely anticipated that Generation 10 would skip the original Switch due to performance issues experienced with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, leaks point to a dual-platform strategy.
The information, originating from a Game Freak hacker and relayed by Centro Leaks, indicates that Generation 10, codenamed "Gaia," is primarily being developed for the original Switch. However, a separate project, "Super Gaia," appears to be a Switch 2 version. Furthermore, a native Switch 2 release for Pokémon Legends: Z-A is also rumored.
This dual-platform approach is feasible given Nintendo's confirmed backward compatibility for the Switch 2. This means Switch 2 owners will be able to play both Generation 10 and Legends: Z-A regardless of whether they receive native ports. While improved performance on the Switch 2 is anticipated, the extent of any enhancements for these potential ports remains unclear.
Important Note: All this information is based on leaks and should be treated with caution. Official confirmation is expected during the Pokémon Presents event on February 27th. However, reports suggest this event will primarily focus on games for the original Switch, potentially implying a significant delay before a dedicated Switch 2 Pokémon title arrives. The possibility of Generation 10 targeting the original Switch might mean a considerable wait for a main series Pokémon game specifically optimized for the Switch 2.
