Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but recently, hidden details linking the artwork to the Game Boy games have surfaced.
The discovery began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted that the Spearow card features recognizable landmarks: a grassy area, a fence, trees, and two buildings. The purple and yellow building strongly resembles the Celadon City Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The adjacent grassy area with a fence is reminiscent of Route 16, a known Spearow habitat.

This intentional referencing of classic Pokémon games by developers Creatures Inc. and DeNA sparked further investigation. Reddit user jteede uncovered additional connections, including a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City and a Haunter card positioned by Lavender Town's tower. Asch_win also revealed location-specific references within several Supporter cards.
Many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings unrelated to established Pokémon lore. Some, like a Pikachu variant, mirror real-world collectible cards. Others, however, are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, making these Easter eggs particularly rewarding to discover.
The Pokémon TCG Pocket community enthusiastically joined the search, identifying further references. A Gyarados full-art card seemingly incorporates the S.S. Anne, while Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards collectively depict a scene reminiscent of the seaside Snorlax encounter in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. Further expansions are anticipated, with occasional new cards added through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures and DeNA continue to release cards spanning various generations, players are encouraged to remain vigilant for further hidden references.
Meanwhile, the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle is ongoing. Players can also explore the ongoing debate regarding the impact of pack choice on card rarity.
