by Christopher May 01,2025

Embarking on a journey through the Living Lands in *Avowed* is no small feat, but with the right companions by your side, you're set for success. The game offers four unique Companions, each bringing their own flair and a suite of upgradable abilities to enhance your adventure. Here’s a detailed look at each Companion you can recruit in *Avowed*.

Kai

Kai in Avowed

Kai is one of the first Companions you'll encounter in *Avowed*. You'll meet him early in the game, right at the port in Dawnshore near Paradis. As you step onto the dock, Kai approaches and joins your quest to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. He remains a steadfast member of your party until you recruit three or more Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.

In *Avowed*, Kai is an ex-mercenary with a soft side, serving as a formidable tank in combat. He excels at both taking and dealing damage. Additionally, his fire abilities are invaluable for clearing obstacles like cobwebs and roots, revealing hidden paths and treasures.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire (Active): Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, stunning and taunting a single enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense (Active): Regenerates Kai's health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring (Active): Kai executes a mighty leap, stunning and taunting nearby enemies upon landing.
  • Second Win (Passive): Revives Kai with 50% of his maximum health when his health reaches zero.

Marius

Marius in Avowed

Marius, the second Companion you'll meet, has a shared history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. He joins your party at a local bar, where you can choose to resolve a conflict either through diplomacy or combat.

As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius's abilities enhance your exploration of the Living Lands. His Hunter Sense helps locate valuable loot and crafting materials. In combat, Marius wields a bow and arrow alongside daggers, and can manipulate nature to ensnare enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities include:

  • Binding Roots (Active): Immobilizes an enemy for 8 seconds with roots.
  • Heart Seeker (Active): Fires a piercing shot that always hits its target, passing through obstacles.
  • Shadow Step (Active): Marius disappears into smoke, reappearing to attack an enemy up to three times.
  • Wounding Shots (Passive): His attacks cause enemies to bleed.

Giatta

Giatta in Avowed

Giatta, the third Companion, joins your party later in the main quest in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she wields controversial magic within the Living Lands, playing a crucial role in unraveling the game's spiritual mysteries.

In combat, Giatta serves as a supportive figure, focusing on healing, shielding, and buffing her allies rather than dealing direct damage. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, unlocking pathways and revealing hidden loot during exploration.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification (Active): Heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier (Active): Grants allies temporary health for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration (Active): Boosts the move and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction (Passive): Giatta's attacks provide minor healing to all allies.

Yatzli

Yatzli in Avowed

Yatzli, the fourth and final Companion, joins your party in the Shatterscarp region within Thirdborn, though you may encounter her earlier in the world. As a magic user, Yatzli specializes in dealing substantial damage to enemies, excelling in both single-target and crowd control spells. Her magic also aids in clearing obstacles, making her an excellent choice for exploration in the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities include:

  • Essence Explosion (Active): Unleashes an arcane blast upon contact with an enemy, causing an explosion of Essence and damage.
  • Minoletta’s Missile Battery (Active): Launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion (Active): Slows an enemy for 10 seconds using arcane energy.
  • Blast (Passive): Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in *Avowed*, each bringing unique skills and abilities to your journey through the Living Lands. *Avowed* is now available on PC and Xbox, ready for you to explore with your chosen team.
