The Sims franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular array of in-game events, a marathon 25-hour livestream, and the highly anticipated return of two classic titles! Dive into the details below.
Happy 25th Anniversary, The Sims!
A Celebration Overflowing with Events and Freebies
The Sims' 25th anniversary is marked by a plethora of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing top Simmers, and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, shared with Xbox Wire: "Our amazing players have proven that nobody captures life quite like The Sims, and we wanted to commemorate this shared journey. Twenty-five years ago, a game with a groundbreaking concept made waves at E3, and look how far we've come! We've touched countless lives across generations." He emphasized the crucial role of player support over two decades, stating that without their dedication, this milestone wouldn't be possible.
"Every Simmer, from every era and every way of playing The Sims, is part of this 25-year adventure, and this is our heartfelt thank you."
The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 Make a Grand Return
The biggest news? Players can revisit the origins of the franchise! To celebrate the 25th anniversary, The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, complete with all their DLC, are now available on Steam and the EA store, individually or as a Birthday Bundle.
This is a momentous occasion for Simmers, as these initial titles were unavailable for purchase for almost a decade. Even with physical copies, running them on modern systems was challenging. EA has addressed this by releasing versions compatible with current hardware, fulfilling a long-awaited wish for the community.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4 features the "Blast From The Past" event, introducing iconic clothing, furniture, and décor from earlier games. Over four weeks, new items will be released, including neon inflatable chairs, a three-layer cake, a light-up dance floor, and even rotary phones.
The Sims FreePlay Birthday Update transports players back to the series' early 2000s roots, with new Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing The Sims' history.
A 25-Hour Livestream for 25 Years of Fun
The anniversary kicked off with a 25-hour livestream on February 4th, featuring numerous celebrities, streamers, and beloved Simmers. Guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, Ironmouse, and many more.
