Beloved YouTuber Shirley Curry, affectionately known as the Skyrim Grandma, has begun playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered—and her live chat is eagerly offering all the guidance she needs.
In a video titled "Oblivion Remastered #1 Learning," shared with her 1.3 million YouTube subscribers, the 89-year-old started her journey in Bethesda’s recently released remaster, having just completed the tutorial section.
"Good morning, grandkids. Welcome to Oblivion Remastered," Curry began. "I’ve finally left behind that eerie prison, the dungeons, the sewers, and all the messy areas you spend so long navigating before stepping into the open world. This is the very first sight that greets me."
Curry is experiencing some challenges adjusting to Oblivion Remastered, asking her chat for help with things like switching to a third-person camera view. She spends much of her time examining her surroundings, exploring the environment, and familiarizing herself with movement, controls, and game mechanics. And yes—lockpicking presents a real struggle. But then again, doesn’t it for everyone?
Shirley, if you're tuning in, be sure to explore our complete guide to everything available in Oblivion Remastered—including a detailed Interactive Map, full Walkthroughs for the Main Questline and all Guild Quests, How to Build the Perfect Character, Things to Do First, every PC Cheat Code, and much more!
A follow-up video, "Oblivion Remastered #2 Still Learning," continued her efforts to get comfortable with the game. "I expect you'll be hearing quite a bit of grumbling from me," Curry admitted while navigating a cave overrun with goblins and giant rats.

Throughout her playthrough, supportive fans have been posting useful tips to guide Curry through her initial hours in the game.
"Wow, Grandma Shirley! Welcome to TES4!!" one fan commented, which Curry acknowledged with a 'heart' reaction.
"If you're using a keyboard, you can switch between first-person and third-person view by pressing the mouse wheel. On a controller, it works exactly like Skyrim—just click the right stick. Lockpicking can be really tricky in Oblivion! I usually rely on auto-attempt until I reach level 10. If I run out of lockpicks, that’s just how it goes. Then, I visit Nocturnal's Shrine and complete her quest to receive the unbreakable Skeleton Key. After that, auto-attempt becomes a breeze! You can also use open lock spells or visit the Tower Stone—a doom stone similar to Skyrim’s standing stones—which grants a daily power to open one lock. You’ll need to activate it at night, and its glow is visible from the Imperial City's Waterfront District."
Another helpful viewer added: "It's great to see you're getting the hang of it, Shirley. If you select 'Wait,' you can choose your preferred time of day, but remember—you can’t use it when enemies are nearby." Curry replied with thanks for the suggestion.

Last year, Curry announced she was retiring from making gameplay videos after nine years. She mentioned at the time that she no longer enjoyed the process, though it seems she couldn't stay away for long.
Curry’s impact on The Elder Scrolls franchise is already legendary. She has earned respect from fellow Skyrim community members and even from the developer Bethesda. Fans campaigned to have Curry featured as a character in The Elder Scrolls VI, and Bethesda confirmed she will appear as an NPC in the upcoming title.
While The Elder Scrolls VI is likely still years from launch, in the meantime, Skyrim Grandma has plenty to keep her busy with Oblivion Remastered.
