Square Enix has once again put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and enthusiastic social media update, complete with captivating images that leave fans buzzing with anticipation. This comes on the heels of yesterday's news, where the company announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. However, they seized the moment to reassure the Kingdom Hearts community that they remain "hard at work" on the eagerly awaited Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" declared Square Enix in their first of two posts. Accompanying this message was a collage of screenshots that not only teased some of the characters we'll encounter but also offered glimpses into cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming elements, and an imposingly large enemy that promises thrilling encounters.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This recent update marks the first substantial news about the highly-anticipated sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite the initial reveal in September 2022, which came with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had maintained a veil of silence until now.
Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, steer the series' narrative towards its long-awaited conclusion.
As for the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to the game. The project was canceled because "it was determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
