Take-Two CEO Reassures Over GTA 6 Delay Stock Slump

by Matthew Dec 05,2025

Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has reassured investors following the unexpected delay of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Rockstar announced today that GTA VI has been pushed beyond its Fall 2025 release window, now officially slated for May 26, 2026. Previously set for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, this launch is anticipated to become the largest entertainment event in history. The delay shifts the title's financial impact from Take-Two's 2026 fiscal year into 2027.

Take-Two shares experienced an early trading decline of 7.98% at the time of reporting. In an official corporate statement, the company confirmed its expectation for continued and record Net Bookings (revenue) growth throughout Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027.

Zelnick voiced his full support for Rockstar's decision to postpone GTA VI, assuring shareholders that this strategic move aligns with the company's long-term growth strategy.

"We fully endorse Rockstar Games' choice to extend development time, ensuring they can realize their complete creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI—an experience we believe will redefine entertainment and surpass audience expectations," Zelnick stated.

"While we recognize the significance of adjusting release schedules and deeply appreciate the global enthusiasm surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, our dedication to quality remains absolute. As we continue rolling out our impressive portfolio, we anticipate sustained business expansion and increased shareholder value across multiple years."

With GTA VI's revenue now deferred beyond FY2026, attention turns to Take-Two's other forthcoming titles. Beyond Rockstar, the corporation oversees 2K Games and 2K Sports. Gearbox's Borderlands 4 is scheduled for September, while Mafia: The Old Country and NBA 2K26 are also expected this year. Further ahead, development continues on the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine's anticipated project, Judas.

Realistically, however, none of 2K's upcoming releases in the next year can compensate for the monumental financial impact of GTA VI's postponement, leaving Take-Two's revenue projections notably lower. Despite the delay, most GTA VI followers express little surprise, though many had hoped for at least fresh promotional material to ease the disappointment.
