There’s no denying the thrill of a new Final Destination movie hitting theaters, and Final Destination: Bloodlines delivers the long-awaited sixth installment in the franchise that fans have come to love. As with every film in the series, it wouldn’t feel complete without the chilling presence of Tony Todd — an actor whose legacy includes not only this iconic horror series but also his unforgettable performance as the original Candyman. In what turned out to be one of his final on-screen appearances, Todd delivered a deeply moving monologue that was entirely unscripted, according to producer Craig Perry, who described the moment as both powerful and emotional.
Speaking with Deadline, Perry reflected on working with Todd during the filming of Bloodlines, noting that everyone on set was aware of the actor’s declining health at the time. “We all knew he was quite ill,” Perry said. “It was pretty clear this would be the last role he ever played in a movie. And the fact that it was a Final Destination film made it even more meaningful.”
What makes Todd’s scene so special is the creative risk taken by directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who chose to deviate from the script for the final lines. Instead of sticking to the written dialogue, they gave Todd the space to speak directly to the fans — offering whatever message he felt was most important.
“They made the very thoughtful decision to scrap the last couple of scripted lines and just said, ‘Tony, say what you want to say to the fans. What would you like to leave them with?’” Perry recalled. “That’s why that scene feels so raw and real — because it’s Tony speaking straight from the heart to the people who supported him for decades. It was a truly magical moment on set. One I’ll carry with me forever.”
