If you're a fan of Helldivers 2, you'll be relieved to hear that developer Arrowhead has reassured players it remains fully committed to the game despite speculation about its next project, "Game 6." As spotted by VG247, CEO Shams Jorjani addressed concerns in the official Helldivers Discord, emphasizing that the team's current focus remains entirely on Helldivers 2.
"The wonderful thing is that thanks to your incredible support, Arrowhead's future is bright, and we have the freedom to explore exciting ideas," Jorjani stated. He clarified that while a small team will start work on Game 6 later this year, Helldivers 2 remains the primary priority for the foreseeable future.
When asked about the longevity of content updates for Helldivers 2, Jorjani responded, "As long as you keep playing and purchasing Super Credits, we can keep the game going." This virtual currency, used to buy Premium Warbonds, has been crucial in sustaining the game post-launch. Last summer, Arrowhead faced challenges, but strong player support helped stabilize the situation.
Jorjani also hinted at Arrowhead's independence for its next game, stating it's "100% funded by ourselves," suggesting no involvement with publishers like Sony. This implies Game 6 is unlikely to be Helldivers 3. In fact, Jorjani emphasized a smarter approach to development for Game 6, aiming to perfect the core gameplay early on, unlike the eight-year journey of Helldivers 2.
Arrowhead's vision for Helldivers 2 aligns with its developers' earlier statements, aiming for the game to endure for years. Despite challenges such as review-bomb campaigns and community backlash, the game remains a massive success, selling 12 million copies in just 12 weeks—a record unmatched by any first-party Sony title.
Recent developments suggest upcoming content, including the introduction of Super Earth as a playable map, as the Illuminate invade Earth. Production director Alex Bolle expressed excitement about maintaining the game's integrity while innovating in a live-service environment, promising fresh features inspired by creative experimentation.
With Arrowhead's dedication and player support, Helldivers 2 seems poised for a long and engaging future.
