Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

While waiting for the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news for fans: development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the experience.

The update boasts improved technical stability for DOOM and DOOM II, along with exciting new features. Multiplayer mod support has been added, compatible with mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play now allows all players to collect items, and a spectator mode has been implemented for players waiting to respawn. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized. Finally, the mod loader can now handle more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. Players will have extensive customization options, exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage taken, and various other parameters like game tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirms that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly with DOOM: Eternal.
