Stun the Monster
Ebony Odogaron's speed is its most challenging attribute, often leaving players scrambling to keep up. To counter this, stunning the monster can provide crucial moments of respite. Utilize the Flashfly found in the area to temporarily immobilize it, or come prepared with crafted Flash Pods to shoot at the beast and halt its rapid advances.
Bring Teammates
Tackling Ebony Odogaron solo can be daunting, with much of your time spent evading its swift attacks. To enhance your chances, consider teaming up. Send out SOS signals to recruit fellow hunters for the fight. Should no players respond, NPCs can serve as valuable allies, acting as a buffer between you and the monster, allowing you to dodge and strike when the beast's focus shifts.
Pull Down Entangled Rocks
During the battle, look for opportunities to use the environment to your advantage. In certain areas, Entangled Rocks hang overhead. By shooting them down with your slinger, you can stun Ebony Odogaron for a few precious seconds. Remember, this tactic can only be used once per fight, so timing is key. Additionally, deploying Pitfall and Shock Traps can grant you two more chances to immobilize the creature.
Beware of Dragonblight
Apart from its physical prowess, Ebony Odogaron can inflict Dragonblight, which hampers your ability to apply elemental or status effects with your attacks. To counteract this, keep Nulberries handy to cleanse the effect or equip gear with Level 3 Dragon Resistance or Blight Resistance to mitigate its impact.
Inflict Paralysis
Using Paralysis on Ebony Odogaron is highly recommended. This status effect will temporarily immobilize the monster, providing a window to deal significant damage. If you can lure the beast onto roots and knock it down, it may become further entangled, extending your opportunity to attack.
Aim for the Head
The head of Ebony Odogaron is its most vulnerable spot, boasting a 3-star weakness. Targeting it can maximize your damage output, though it positions you directly in the monster's line of sight, increasing your risk. As an alternative, focus on its forelegs and tail; while less damaging, these attacks can still contribute to breaking the monster's limbs and weakening it.

How to Capture Ebony Odogaron in Monster Hunter Wilds
Screenshot by The Escapist
Capturing Ebony Odogaron requires careful preparation. First, reduce its health to 20 percent or below. Once weakened, deploy a Pitfall or Shock Trap to immobilize it, followed by a tranquilizer to put it to sleep. If the monster's health is too high, the tranquilizer won't work, and it will break free, forcing you to continue the fight.
