Blizzard's Focus: Content Players Crave

Diablo 4 surpasses Diablo 3? Blizzard prioritizes player engagement across all titlesBlizzard intends to maintain Diablo 4's active player base for the long haul, especially given its record-breaking sales as the company's fastest-selling game. In a recent VGC interview, Diablo series head Rod Fergusson and Diablo 4 executive producer Gavian Whishaw emphasized that sustained player engagement across all Diablo titles—from Diablo 4 to the original—is a win-win for Blizzard.

"One thing you'll notice about Blizzard is our commitment to keeping games active," Fergusson stated to VGC. "You can still play Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 2: Resurrected, and Diablo 3. Players enjoying Blizzard games is fantastic."

Diablo 4 surpasses Diablo 3? Blizzard prioritizes player engagement across all titlesAddressing concerns about Diablo 4's player count relative to previous installments, Fergusson clarified that player distribution across different titles isn't a problem. He highlighted the enduring popularity of Diablo 2: Resurrected, a remaster of a 21-year-old game, as evidence of the broad appeal of the franchise. The key, he stressed, is maintaining a vibrant Blizzard gaming ecosystem.

Fergusson further emphasized Blizzard's desire to let players choose their preferred game. While increased player migration from Diablo 3 to Diablo 4 would be financially beneficial, the company isn't actively trying to force players to switch.

"Whether they play Diablo 4 today, tomorrow, or later, our goal is to create compelling content and features that draw players in," Fergusson explained. "This is why we continue supporting Diablo 3 and Diablo 2. Our focus is on creating appealing content."
