Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer and several other Fallout developers have expressed a keen interest in contributing to a new Fallout game. However, this enthusiasm is contingent upon creative freedom.
Creative Constraints are Key
Sawyer, in a YouTube Q&A, stated his willingness to develop another Fallout title, but only if given sufficient creative leeway. He emphasized the importance of exploring new ideas, highlighting that restrictive constraints would make the project unappealing. His sentiment echoes that of other developers.
Last year, Fallout co-creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky expressed interest in a Fallout: New Vegas remaster, but only if it allowed for innovative elements. Cain specifically mentioned his desire for novelty, stating that the allure of a new Fallout project hinges on offering something fresh and different from previous installments. He emphasized the need for innovation, questioning why he would participate in a project that lacked a unique selling point.
Obsidian's Current Focus and Future Hopes
Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart also shared his desire to work on another Fallout game. However, he confirmed in a January 2023 interview with Game Pressure that no such project is currently underway, citing the studio's commitments to Avowed, Grounded, and Outer Worlds 2. While he expressed a personal hope to develop another Fallout game before retirement, he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the timing of such a project. The possibility remains open, but it's contingent on Obsidian's future scheduling and the opportunity to create something truly innovative within the Fallout universe.
