Insomniac Games made a strong case for developing Resistance 4, but the project was ultimately rejected.
Ted Price, founder and outgoing president of Insomniac Games, is giving interviews following his retirement announcement after 30 years leading the studio. In a recent discussion with Kinda Funny Games, Price was asked about a favorite project that was pitched but never produced, and he shared details about one such endeavor.
“One that stands out is Resistance 4,” he said.
Price explained that he and the team “presented a compelling concept for it, but due to timing and market conditions, it didn’t move forward.” He noted that the Insomniac team was “eager to expand the narrative, as Resistance offers a fascinating alternate history setting where the Chimera’s story and origins open up endless possibilities.”
The Resistance series, a collection of first-person shooters crafted by Insomniac after their work on Ratchet and Clank, is set in an alternate 1951 where aliens invade the UK. The studio developed three Resistance titles exclusively for the PlayStation 3 before shifting focus to projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
Earlier this year, Price revealed his retirement from Insomniac Games after more than three decades with the company. He appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to take over leadership.
Insomniac’s latest release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, recently launched on PC, with their next project, Marvel’s Wolverine, currently in development.
