Keanu Reeves recently delivered one of the most encouraging updates regarding Constantine 2, revealing that the project finally has a solid story foundation after over a decade of attempts. Following a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios, Reeves shared the exciting news with Inverse.
The actor expressed optimism, stating, "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay.' So, we're going to try and write a script."
This announcement marks a significant milestone for fans of the occult detective, John Constantine, portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 adaptation. Since its release, the film has developed a devoted following, prompting consistent requests for a sequel. Reeves himself has long expressed enthusiasm for revisiting the role.
However, despite the positive feedback from DC Studios, there remains no official confirmation of Constantine 2 being greenlit by co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. As such, the project still teeters on the edge of becoming an official part of the revamped DC Universe.
Reeves hinted that if the film moves forward, it will remain within the same universe as the first movie. He joked, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more," suggesting a continuation of the character's gritty narrative.
These developments follow earlier comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who admitted in September that a script for Constantine 2 exists but remains unread due to his fear of it not meeting expectations. Di Bonaventura humorously noted, "It's in my inbox right now... I want it to be good so bad."

While the path to production is uncertain, Reeves' involvement and the recent progress signal potential hope for fans eagerly awaiting another adventure with the enigmatic Constantine.
