The controversy erupted following the removal of Marvel Rivals mods that replaced Captain America's head with images of both Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The platform's owner, known as TheDarkOne, clarified the situation on Reddit, explaining that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. TheDarkOne highlighted the irony of YouTube commentators seemingly ignoring this detail.
However, this decision triggered a wave of online harassment. TheDarkOne reported receiving death threats and various other abusive messages directed at the platform and its staff.
This isn't an isolated incident. Nexus Mods faced similar backlash in 2022 when a Spider-Man Remastered mod replacing rainbow flags with American flags was removed. The platform's stance on inclusivity and its policy against discriminatory content were clearly stated at the time.
