Longtime readers might remember our coverage of the quirky 2020 game, Mask Up, a unique roguelike platformer where you transformed from a mere puddle of yellow goo into a formidable mass. If you've been craving more of that strangeness, developer Rouli has answered your call with the sequel, Mask Around.
In Mask Around, the gameplay evolves significantly from its predecessor. While Mask Up was primarily a 2D roguelike brawler, Mask Around introduces 2D shooting mechanics, blending running and gunning with traditional brawling. You can now switch seamlessly between using your goo abilities and wielding firearms to navigate through levels and tackle enemies.
The iconic yellow ooze returns, but remains a precious resource. Keeping an eye on your ooze meter is crucial, especially during intense boss battles where running dry could spell disaster.
We all wear masksYou can dive into Mask Around right now on Google Play, though there's no news yet on an iOS release. While I haven't played the original, Mask Around appears to be a significant evolution of the formula. It not only maintains the core gameplay but expands it with new mechanics that require strategic use of the ooze meter alongside weapon-based defense. The graphics have also received a nice polish, enhancing the overall experience.
