Minecraft is heading to mobile with its first-ever match-three spinoff

Developed by King, this game delivers block-based matching action inspired by the iconic Minecraft universe.

Construct, explore, and dive into a Minecraft-themed twist on King’s signature match-three formula.

Minecraft. You know it, you (likely) love it. No matter what else can be said about Mojang’s block-building phenomenon, it’s a massive global success. Since Microsoft acquired Minecraft and Mojang back in 2014, they’ve been eager to expand the franchise through spin-offs. Now, King is taking the lead on Minecraft Blast!

Currently in soft launch on iOS in Malaysia, Minecraft Blast delivers exactly what you’d expect. It blends King’s expertise in fast-paced match-three puzzles with a familiar Minecraft aesthetic. Match blocks inspired by the original game and use themed boosters to power through levels.

The creative building mechanic, central to Minecraft’s identity, is also featured here. Players will reportedly be able to design and construct custom structures to personalize their Minecraft Blast world. Exploration remains a core part of the experience, allowing you to uncover villages, navigate deep caves, and even board pirate ships.

Minecraft Blast clearly reflects high production quality, and it’s evident this game was crafted with care to maximize player appeal. On my end, I can’t deny the gameplay feels both enjoyable and challenging.

Still, part of me misses the low-poly, slightly awkward charm of the original Minecraft. That said, it’s hard to fault King, considering Microsoft-owned Mojang has been moving toward a more polished, rounded, and family-friendly version of the franchise.

Regardless, this marks a significant new chapter for the franchise—especially since Minecraft hasn’t had a mobile spin-off before. Will it catch on? Only time will tell.
