Monster Hunter Wilds Nears 1 Million Peak Concurrent Players on Steam — and It’s Only Going to Get Bigger From Here

by Lillian Mar 06,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds' phenomenal launch has seen it achieve almost 1 million concurrent players on Steam, making it the eighth most played game on the platform ever. This impressive feat, reaching 987,482 concurrent users, surpasses the peak player counts of popular titles such as Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur's Gate 3, and significantly outperforms its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which peaked at 334,684 concurrent players on Steam.

The actual peak concurrent player count is likely even higher, considering that Sony and Microsoft don't publicly release their player numbers. As Monster Hunter Wilds enters its first weekend, the potential for surpassing 1 million concurrent players, and even reaching 2 million, is very real.

While Capcom hasn't revealed sales figures, the game's launch is undeniably a massive success, echoing the trajectory of Monster Hunter World, which achieved over 25 million sales in six years. However, the Steam version currently holds a "mixed" user review rating, with some players reporting performance issues.

IGN awarded Monster Hunter Wilds an 8/10 rating, praising its improved accessibility while noting a lack of significant challenge.
