Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

At present, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join Pokémon's competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared that while they continuously evaluate different titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate horizon.

With a light-hearted tone, Brown mentioned, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's playful April Fool’s joke about a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he firmly stated, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, though we’re always keeping our options open."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given for Pokémon TCG Pocket's exclusion from the competitive scene, fans have come up with their own theories. The game is still in its infancy, having been released just four months ago in October 2024, with only two sets released so far.

Although the game includes competitive features that have been available since launch, players have called for better balance adjustments. Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a simplified version of the traditional Pokémon card game, designed to be more accessible to beginners. As such, a highly competitive environment isn't part of its core design philosophy.

Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will all be featured in the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, held in Anaheim, California.
