Robert Eggers is set to direct a sequel to the cherished fantasy classic Labyrinth following his gothic horror film Nosferatu.

According to Variety, the visionary filmmaker will write and helm the follow-up to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy masterpiece starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Eggers will collaborate with Sjón, his writing partner from The Northman, on the script. Previously, a sequel was in development with Scott Derrickson (Sinister) attached, but with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now greenlit Eggers' version.

The original 1986 film featured Bowie's iconic performance as the Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Connelly's baby brother. The story follows her perilous journey through a mesmerizing fantasy realm populated by Jim Henson's legendary puppet creatures as she attempts to rescue the child.

Beyond the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers has another intriguing project in development. The director will tackle a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for Christmas 2026 release. Current details reveal it's set in 13th century England, with dialogue written in period-accurate Old English. Naturally, audiences can expect terrifying lupine transformations during the story.

Eggers' recent dark fantasy Nosferatu, a reimagining of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic, premiered last holiday season. The atmospheric horror film follows a 19th century German real estate agent sent to Transylvania to negotiate a castle sale with a sinister nobleman, unleashing supernatural horrors upon his return home.

Nosferatu received significant recognition today with four Oscar nominations: Best Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our full analysis of Eggers' haunting vampire tale via the link below.
