Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Headed to the Big Screen
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to life in a film adaptation, announced at CES 2025. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting reveal, stating, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a movie based on the immensely popular Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles unfolding on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers, has achieved phenomenal success. The game quickly became PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original game.
This cinematic venture follows the previously announced Horizon Zero Dawn movie, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film). Qizilbash offered a glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project, promising, "We are in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
