Avowed's Character Creation: A Deep Dive into Backgrounds
Avowed boasts a rich character creator, allowing players to customize their character's physical appearance and select a Background, shaping their backstory and influencing the narrative. This guide details each Background and its impact on gameplay.
Avowed offers five distinct Backgrounds, each providing unique dialogue options and a starting weapon. While the starting weapon differs, all equipment and abilities remain accessible regardless of chosen Background.
The Five Backgrounds:

Arcane Scholar: This scholarly character hails from Bragganhyl Academy, their treatise on soul lineages causing conflict with a local lord. Imprisoned, they were recruited by the emperor for the imperial archives. Their expertise lies in the occult, legal matters, history, and poetry.

Court Augur: This Background features a tragic past, their mystical insights leading to suspicion and exile after a village crop failure. The emperor recruited them as a personal mystic. Court Augurs possess spiritual awareness and dialogue options reflecting their magical connection and understanding of the Gods. Ideal for players envisioning a wizard archetype, and they'll likely find common ground with the Giatta companion.

Noble Scion: A product of noble birth, wealth, and questionable morals, this character's family crumbled amidst scandal. Seeking the emperor's favor, they become a valuable ally to the empire. This Background suits players loyal to the empire and its goals within the Living Lands.

Vanguard Scout: Spared from execution, this character values wilderness over city life and politics. Their tracking and espionage skills make them an asset to the empire. This Background complements a hunter-style playthrough and resonates with the Marius companion.

War Hero: This character's bravery in quelling a Skaenite uprising earned them a place among elite warriors. Loyalty and resilience define them, making them invaluable to the emperor. This Background is perfect for players favoring a warrior archetype and may find a connection with the Kai companion.
Starting Weapons:
Each Background provides a Common-quality, one-handed melee weapon:

These starting weapons are found near a shipwreck during the "On Strange Shores" quest and are easily replaceable. Prioritize the Background that best suits your roleplaying preferences.
