Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes
Deadlock's latest major update is transforming its four-lane map into a more streamlined three-lane setup, accompanied by extensive changes across the game. On February 26, 2025, Valve shared the full details of this map rework and other mechanic adjustments on Steam.
The redesign involves reducing the lanes from four to three, accompanied by "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock, known for its unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre, aims to simplify gameplay with this update, addressing the complexity that a fourth lane might have introduced.
Furthermore, the update introduces changes to farming mechanics, eliminating the need for last-hitting enemies to summon Soul Orbs, which should make early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also mention enhancements to the game's netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.
Vital Update for Deadlock
This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to reignite its community's enthusiasm. After reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 active players in September 2024, the game experienced a significant drop, with only about 17,000 players this past month.
In response to community feedback, Valve Developer Yoshi announced in January 2025 on Deadlock’s Discord server that the team would adjust their update schedule. Yoshi explained, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
Currently, Deadlock is in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. While no specific release date has been announced, keep an eye on our Deadlock page for the latest updates and information about the game.
