Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. This news has understandably disappointed many fans.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancellation
A String of Postponements
The cancellation, revealed via a Twitter (X) post, follows a series of delays. Initial listings showed a March 2023 release, later pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025. Pre-orders were subsequently canceled by retailers like Amazon. Meridiem Games declined to provide further details beyond the initial announcement regarding the specific localization challenges encountered.
This is a significant setback for European fans, as it prevents an official release in Spanish and other European languages. While digital versions remain accessible, the opportunity to purchase a physical copy in Europe is now lost. European players wishing to own a physical copy will need to import a US version.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG centered on Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic experience. The gameplay seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an issue with merchandise sold by the developer, OMOCAT, several years prior.
