Path of Exile 2's Endgame Rituals: A Comprehensive Guide
Path of Exile 2 introduces several endgame events, including Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revamped mechanic from previous leagues. We'll cover initiation, mechanics, the Pinnacle boss, and the unique reward system.
Identifying and Initiating Rituals
Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a distinct red pentagram icon on the Atlas. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, inserted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Once in a map with a Ritual, several Altars will appear. Each map features a shared random modifier affecting enemies and mechanics. These modifiers might include massive rat swarms, life-draining pools of blood, or other challenges.
To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circle will illuminate; remain within it to fight off enemy waves. Leaving the circle prematurely ends the event without rewards. Completing all Rituals in a map marks it as complete.
Confronting the King in the Mists
The "An Audience With The King" currency item unlocks a fight with the King in the Mists, the Ritual Pinnacle Boss. This item is a random reward from Ritual Favours.
Use "An Audience With The King" at your Realmgate to access the fight. The King in the Mists' mechanics are similar to his Act 1 Cruel version (found in Freythorn). Victory yields two Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique items exclusive to the Ritual event, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
Navigating the Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessed via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen (bottom right), offers modifiers to enhance Ritual rewards. These include reduced Tribute requirements, improved rewards, and increased unique currency drop chances.
The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing the King in the Mists' difficulty. Defeating the King in the Mists awards two skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.
Prioritize these Notable nodes: "From The Mists," "Spreading Darkness," and "Ominous Portents" for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, consider "Tempting Offers" and "He Approaches" for better Omen and "An Audience With The King" chances.
Understanding Ritual Rewards: Tribute and Favours
Successful Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favours, ranging from basic Magic items and currencies to high-tier gear and currencies. "An Audience With The King" is exclusively obtained through Favours.
Omen Currencies: A Powerful Addition
Omen currencies are highly sought-after. These powerful items modify the effects of other currency items. Examples include Omens of Annulment (restricting removed modifiers) and Omens of Alchemy (controlling added modifiers). Their effects are consumed upon use. Consider trading them if unsure of their application.
Regular high-tier currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.) also drop from Ritual enemies. Unlike the Simulacrum boss, the King in the Mists only has a chance to drop Uniques from a Ritual-exclusive pool.
