This mission involves Skif meeting Yaryk Mongoose, who requests activation of a second measuring device atop a silo. While short, it rewards players with a Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facility.
Initiating the "For Science!" Side Quest
The "For Science!" quest begins by locating Yaryk Mongoose in the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. Approaching this location triggers a radio call between Mongoose and Skif, prompting Skif to meet him.
Upon entering Central Elevator, proceed left, past the conveyor belts, and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose is on the first floor; vault the railing to reach and speak with him. He'll explain the need to activate a second device on a nearby silo, initiating the mission once you accept.
Reaching the Silo's Summit
Exit the room and climb to the building's roof. Eliminate any rodents encountered. A room with broken windows allows access to an external walkway and ladder leading to the silos.
Jump to the connecting walkway and proceed to the second measuring device. Equip your bolt-action weapon to counter electro anomalies along the way. Activate the device.
Dealing with the Aftermath
Activating the device attracts Bloodsuckers. Players can either eliminate them or evade them to return to Yaryk Mongoose.
Upon confronting Mongoose, he'll explain the experiment's unforeseen consequences. Players can choose to kill Mongoose for endangering Skif or accept the reward peacefully. Neither choice significantly impacts the game's progression. Choosing the peaceful option yields the Malachite Pass and coupons. The pass allows entry to the STC Malachite base, unless already accessible through main missions.
