Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike Dungeon Crawler

The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is heavily inspired by Hades, boasting a similar art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique twist: ability upgrades come with significant downsides, adding a layer of strategic depth not often seen in the genre.

Currently available as a free demo on Steam, Rogue Loops features a repeating dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, viewed from a top-down perspective. These upgrades, similar to Hades' Chaos Gates, offer powerful buffs but also inflict detrimental "curses." Unlike Hades, these curses in Rogue Loops can have more varied and potentially run-lasting effects, significantly impacting gameplay strategy.

The game's narrative centers on a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players must navigate five floors of increasingly challenging dungeons, battling unique enemies and bosses. Each run offers opportunities to unlock procedurally generated upgrades, allowing for diverse character builds through a combination of beneficial and detrimental effects.

While a precise release date remains unannounced, Rogue Loops is slated for a PC release in Q1 2025. Until then, players can explore the first floor via the free Steam demo. Other roguelikes like Dead Cells and Hades 2 provide ample entertainment in the interim.
