Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not include an in-game messaging system, a hallmark feature of previous Soulsborne titles. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki, is a practical one. The anticipated shorter play sessions of approximately 40 minutes in Nightreign, compared to the often hours-long sessions of Elden Ring, leave insufficient time for players to engage with the asynchronous messaging system.
While removing this feature, FromSoftware emphasizes that other asynchronous elements will be retained and even enhanced. The bloodstain mechanic, for instance, will return with improved functionality, allowing players to observe and even loot the ghosts of fallen opponents.
The omission of the messaging system aligns with FromSoftware's goal of creating a more "compressed RPG" experience for Nightreign. The game's anticipated three-day structure and multiplayer focus contribute to this vision of a fast-paced, high-intensity experience with minimal downtime.
Despite the absence of the messaging system, Nightreign aims to deliver a diverse and engaging experience. The game's 2025 release window was confirmed at TGA 2024, though a precise date remains unannounced.
